We register and protect Industrial Property Rights (trademarks, patents and designs) in Portugal. We promote the protection of these rights abroad.
Our work has a national dimension and an international dimension.
In Portugal:
- we grant and ensure the protection of trademarks, logos, patents, utility models, designs, appellations of origin and geographical indications;
- we guarantee that National legislation (especially the Industrial Property Code [portuguese only]) and international law (conventions, treaties and agreements to which Portugal is part) are respected during the processes of granting and protection of Industrial Property Rights.
INPI's activities are complemented by the Intellectual Property Court that decides all disputes involving Industrial Property.
Abroad, we collaborate with several International Organisations to:
- ensure that the rights we confer in Portugal can be protected in other countries;
- ensure that trademark, patent and design rights registered abroad can be protected in Portugal.
