A virtual bilateral meeting took place this morning between the Heads of the Iberian IP Offices: the Portuguese Institute of Industrial Property and the Spanish Patent and Trademark Institute [OEPM - Oficina Española de Patentes y Marcas], aiming at sharing the best practices and future policies of the different IP categories, heading towards the provision of a best in class service.

This meeting had the purpose of monitoring the topics discussed in previous bilateral meetings, which took place in January and April 2020, respectively, more specifically the actions undertaken and activities organised under this important bilateral cooperation.

Moreover, the meeting also included a review of the first year of implementation of INPI’s Strategic Plan 2020-2023, and the presentation of the Portuguese Office team, focusing as well on the various aspects and challenges as regards Patents and Trademarks. The bilateral meeting agenda also encompassed topics such as the Portuguese experience in the invalidity and expiry of trademarks and other distinctive signs, and on teleworking, and addressed the actions taken for purposes of fighting counterfeiting, such as the World Anti-Counterfeiting Day.
