SME Fund 2025: Applications Now Open

Applications for the 2025 edition have been open since February 3. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can apply for the European Union Fund, designed to support the protection of Industrial Property Rights. This initiative, promoted by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), offers financial assistance to help SMEs safeguard their intellectual assets.

This grant scheme provides partial reimbursement for expenses related to Industrial Property (IP) pre-diagnosis – IP Scan/IP Scan Enforcement, trademarks and designs, patents, and plant variety rights.

For the 2025 edition, the following reimbursements are available:

  • IP Scan/IP Scan Enforcement: up to €810 (in Portugal)
  • Trademarks and Designs: up to €700
  • National Patents: up to €1,000 -  Temporarily unavailable for new orders.
  • European Patents and costs related to drafting and filing European patent applications: up to €2,500 - Temporarily unavailable for new orders.
  • Community Plant Variety Rights: €1,500 - Temporarily unavailable for new orders.

To introduce the key aspects of this edition, the EUIPO will host a free webinar on February 18th. Registrations for the event are now open.

Applications are open from February 3rd to December 5th, 2025, or until available funds are exhausted.

Last year, more than 31,000 SMEs across the European Union took advantage of this initiative. In Portugal alone, approximately 1,000 applications were submitted, with the majority coming from micro-enterprises.
