It has recently been published the report from WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization) - World Intellectual Property Indicators 2018 which for the first time includes statistics on the creative economy.

The demand for industrial property rights reached record levels in 2017. 

China stands out as the country with the highest volume of orders, thus boosting the growth in filings that are at the centre of the global economy.

In the global activity ranking of IP applications of residents and non-residents, by origin, Portugal occupies, generally, the 33rd position. Regarding the classification of IP activity of residents, by origin, Portugal occupies the 27th place. 

Portugal is among the 25 countries with the highest number of applications for trademarks by Office and origin, and among the 10 countries of the EU member states with more Geographical Indications in force in 2017. 

In this report, reference is made to Portuguese “Vinho Verde”, as one of the examples of Appellations of Origin globally protected by the Lisbon System.
