On January 1st 2021, for the fourth time, Portugal was entrusted with the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Portugal is responsible for planning and presiding over the meetings of the Council and its preparatory bodies and representing the Council in other EU institutions.
The official motto of the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union is ‘Time to deliver: a fair, green and digital recovery’. To this end, the Portuguese Presidency has three main priorities:
- Promoting a recovery guided by the climate and digital transitions;
- Implementing the European Pillar of Social Rights of the European Union as a distinctive element to ensure a fair and inclusive climate and digital transition;
- Strengthening Europe's autonomy whilst remaining open to the world.
These priorities will be developed through five action lines: ‘Resilient Europe’, ‘Social Europe’, ‘Green Europe’, ‘Digital Europe’ and ‘Global Europe’.
The Portuguese Presidency believes that it is essential to reflect on the importance of Intellectual Property in the European context. Therefore, INPI is organising a High-Level Conference on Intellectual Property and Digital Transition, under the theme of “The Intellectual Property metamorphosis in the Age of Digital Transition - Remember the past, Act in the Present, and Reflect on the challenges of the Future”. This event is scheduled for February 11th, on a virtual format.
